"ABUELO" Short
Film Featuring "La
Gotán"

Esther
Segovia "La Gotán" was chosen for a important role in the short
film "Abuelo",
directed by Mary Ann Kellogg. This short was a product of the American
Film Institute's (AFI)
Directing Workshop for Women. It features famous argentinean born actor, Castulo
Guerra as
the "abuelo" (grandfather), Brit Flatmo
as the young granddaughter, Greg Baglia as the dad, Norma
Maldonado as the store clerk and Esther Segovia "La Gotán" as
the tango singer.
This film, directed by Mary Ann Kellogg, written by Doug Cooney, and
produced by Laurie Siedman,
tells the heartwarming story of a 12 year old girl born in Los Angeles
who loses her mother, and
her grandfather comes from Argentina to care for her.
Esther was chosen for the role as the result of a recommendation by
a friend. After meeting with the
director, ideas were exchanged regarding the music score of the film,
and Esther's original song,
"Soy La Segovia, Soy El Gotán" , written by composer, Lito
Solanas, was picked as the film's music
score and original theme.
The film was showcased at the Director's Guild of America (DGA) in Hollywood
with great reviews.
